Profile

Where are you from?
Louisiana
What's your favorite medium (i.e. acrylics, watercolor, oils etc)?
graphite pencils and pastels
How long have you been drawing or painting?
I'm returning to art after a long lay off
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I first began to draw in a Reading class, where the teacher had each of us pick a Christmas card and use a grid to make a bigger version of it. We used oil pastels to finish it. The next year in high school, I thought that for a class project, I would attempt to draw the first 16 presidents. I tried James Buchanan first, and it looked pretty much like him so I drew them all. I drew a few other things after that, but left it after a couple of months. I went to college, received a BS, then began working at a school as a para. I eventually went back to college to become a teacher. During test week, (March 2008), when we finished testing for the day, I read to the students. Others were not finished, so we had to remain in our room. During that time of reading to the students, I decided that we all should attempt to draw the girl on the front cover. After this effort, I took pictures and drew the students that I tested. Other students saw these drawings and the requests began. I have drawn several portraits since then and loved all of it. I am now working with soft pastels also. I have no training or art class experience. I am learning so much from the people on this site. Thanks for all of your generosity and encouragement!

Mary,
That purple zinia (or is it Zenia) is the majic of Photoshop.
I took the photograph of the flower when it was in vase. Then I loaded it in computer and applied some of the Photoshop filters, actually multiple filters multiple times at different stages, and this was the end result. Currently, my main computer is out of commission, and so is Photoshop. Once it is up and running, I can tell you what filters I used. However, two of the filters that make sense are 1. Oil Paint, and 2.) Image sharpening tool.

Hi Mary, thank you for checking out my arts. I enjoyed my walk through your gallery. Your portraits especially...you have a gift for expressing the character of each person. You see it in their eyes..in their smiles

Thank you Mary, I appreciate your comment. Feel free to evaluate my work (I don't want to call it "work" yet. This is my learning phase. And all my friends are my teachers. I have started working with watercolors recently, and would love your critique. I see you have done lot of work. What is your favorite medium? I am trying out all of them to see which one works better for me. I have done some oil on canvas, and mostly sketching and drawing.
