Dear Lola,

You make me clean my studio! LOL
I have many storage totes, 2 big 4 drawer chests from Target, the canvases "rest" inside their original boxes and big mixer bowls for the brushes. I don't like using fluid retarder for acrylics and therefore I need to move fast: the result is a big mess. I'm on vacation now and I paint from 5 am til midnight. I don't clean the studio before I go to bed because I have to clean myself LOL and it takes forever. Why?? Because I paint with whatever I can: brushes, hand, fingers, and so on.
Please click on the link - there is a slide show with some of my "storage" stuff or... whatever that is LOL.

Looks like there are a couple of different discussions of this type going...this one here in forums and another in groups. Here's a link to the other group -- click here

If you will look on page three of the "Cheap Alternatives" you will see some inexpensive ideas I use.

Gee I wonder if these two thread could get combined into one?

Lots of great ideas all, thanks!

This is a box fro keeping screws in bought from a DIY store, used for storing some of my pastels, able to keep a colour per tray.

I like the lazy-susan brush caddy. Lola - any idea for such an item in the States?

Well, you can see by the photo that painting is taking over in my 17 by 13 sewing room. Well, maybe the painting is 1/4. LOL

The purpose is that I use the rotating paint rack (Michael's) for tubes of Liquitex. It has 160 slots, so the Ceramcoat and some fabric paint is in there as well as the Liquitex. All paint is sorted by color group for easy reach.

For a wet pallet I use a plastic storage rectangular container with lid - wet paper towel and parchment paper. If I am mixing paint of which I need extra, I like to use the tops from glass candles - I also will store these in the plastic "wet palette" container.

The last thing I can offer to this discussion is my children drink a lot of Tang and Country Time Lemonade. After cleaning the containers, they are great for air-tight needs. I got gesso in the economy size (thank goodness for my happy accidents! LOL). I store gesso in one of these containers. After a shake and a pour out, I just use the current lid for what I need at the moment. Then I get a clean top to seal the container (I have many) until I need it again.

Thank you for sharing all these wonderful ideas. I am going to Walmart - and the thrift stores!

Hello Lola,

I saw your information on the egg/cupcake holder and purchased one, as it seems like a brilliant tool. I have been using a palette with a wet paper towel and a piece of tracing paper or parchment paper on top for my paints. It is easy to clean up as I simply roll up the paper towel and paper when I am finished. I used the egg dish tonight when painting a small study and it was nice because i could really keep the colors seperate and mix in several different cups. However, It was very hard to clean up. I know that acrylics are know for stifking to most surfaces. do you have any tips or tricks on keeping your little egg and cupcake palettes clean?

Thank you for your advice

My recent find is in the 3 photos at beginning of discussion. I purchased these at USA Store Walmat....It is a cupcake and egg holder...2 different trays. They can be stacked...even have holes for holding like a pallette. You can use both trays stacked...they don't nest. I did some customer art restoration work yesteday, and worked with acrylics...I put 1/8 cup approx water in the bottom, not touched by either tray when stacked...and today are still fresh and soft. I bought 2...the price was very low...around $5. can't remember....I am also going to show some very good buys from thrift stores next.....lola
