Thanks John through history artists have used all sorts of techniques to help so for me using a grid to start a drawing is quite acceptable and the more you use it the easier it becomes untill you use methods like this less

Good idea - as a non-artist I suffer from the delusion that a technique like that is somehow "cheating." For some time I have beaten myself up because I can't seem to draw anything other than geometric forms in anything near to proportion...

After a bit of reflection I guess that any method that helps to get the sense of scale correct is perfectly valid - also the small squares are very helpful in getting the details.

Didnt transfer very well onto youtube so has come out very jerky  but  hope you can get the basic idea of how I transfer pics for drawing
