Hi Folks, There must be a distinction between "watery or not so watery paint" and "lighter or darker color." Seems to me...i.e. on Bob's dvd...he says "I lightened the color on this one"....but does…Continue

I have always wanted to be an artist. Life got in the way. Or maybe it was just an extreme lack of talent. Seemed like I could do okay painting out of my (at one time) many step by step books. When I was a kid I drew constantly, anything and everything. But as an adult....life gets in the way. I took up art more seriously for a few years, but then dropped it because I could not create anything I really liked. I don't like to do things I am bad at. So it has been nearly two years…

Hi again,
I have to admit, when I read your profile I thought 'Harp maker, oooh... that's different, I'll have have a peek on Google'.
They are stunning to say the least and the story of your music life from child to the eventual Mrs. Blevins, how romantic.
It all has the makings of a good film.
The car injury, ..... phew! you were very very lucky.
I hope you don't mind, but I listened to some of your playing via the 'Amadeus' harp ad. Brilliant!
It's so good in fact when I clicked to listen, I had the option to just play or 'Save'.
No contest, I liked 'Free Form' so much, it is now the first on my music list.
There you go, a little bit of advertising! LOL and keep those brushes in use.
Regards,
Derick.
Hi Cindy! A big thank you for your kind comments on my 'Primroses' painting.
Where on Earth do you get this " I'm absolutely terrible at " idea?
You are NOT, looking at your paintings I see a desire to do well, they are all very good. It will be (I imagine) like your harp. Practice and practice again, it pays.
Regards,
Derick aka 'Del'

Marguerite said… Cindy, you'll see artists of all skill levels here (I'm certainly not one of the best, but I have fun). Painting and drawing from the step by step books is great practice. I used to belong to the North Light Book Club and I have half a bookcase full of the how-to books. They are good inspiration. You should also check out the challenges. We have a bunch of them and they are a great place to try new things and interact with fellow artists. Are your paintings in Acrylics? Our fellow-member Pat (Newby) moderates the Acrylic Challenge and puts up good photos for us to paint every month. I moderate the Drawing Challenge and we really have a good time (Bix leads the Watercolor Challenge, Tom the Pastel Challenge, and Jim the Oil Challenge). There are lots of special interest groups too. There's lots to do here. I'm sure you'll enjoy your interactions. Hope your Watercolor Secrets arrive soon (I also have the Acrylic Painting Secrets course, but haven't had time to view much more than the introduction. I'm hoping to get going on that soon.
Yes, I live in Littleton which is a south suburb of Denver. It's been many years since we've been to Grand Junction. I know it's grown and changed, but I remember it as a very nice town. Your musical talent and harp business is very impressive!
Take care,
Margueite
Marguerite said… Hi Cindy, We're almost neighbors (well I'm across the mountains in Littleton). I have to disagree with you when you say you are bad at art. From the paintings you've posted I can see that is not true. I really like Matthew and the horse (the snowman is cute too). Welcome to ID&P. There are a lot of talented, helpful people here. I'm sure you'll enjoy the interaction.
