Owen, two of my sisters are visiting from Aus. Just the other day we were riding along in the car reciting Dorothy's "I Love a Sunburnt Country." This is great! How, do you suppose, would it look if you painted the tree shadows darker and longer?

Wow! Love the depth and the opportunity for the viewer to take their own perspective. What were you thinking when you painted it?

I voted 5 stars as I am sure you already know.....I haven't been around much lately but have always admired your work. Dropped in to see what else you have been up too. I must say I love your style. It is very inspiring for me. God will bless your c…

Love the 3-dimensional aspect that the spray-water gives. I appreciate the time spent on this effect, Martin. It brings a lot of energy and life to the drawing.

Mmmmh Michele Phiefer is my guess. I need a broken leg so I can justify sitting around all day with nothing better to do than draw. Seriously though, I can see improvement since you have been laid up. Theres a silver lining on every cloud.:)

Tell us a bit about yourself:
An Aussie living in US. I am just a beginner and average one painting per summer when I can fit in the time. I am presently teaching World Art, history with a related project, to 7th grade home-schoolers (including my own) Thank goodness for Bob's tutorials! They are a great supplement to our curriculum and are the only art instruction I personally have ever had :) I love to paint animals and so far have painted my children's pets. They must be OK as I have been asked to paint several pet portraits.
I am currently experimenting with pastels, and water color pencils.
Thank you Bob! You have been a great encouragement.

Vicki,
I could be so lucky, she is a beautiful star, one of my husband's favs, reason why I chose her. I do remember the eye rule but in the original the space was not an eye reason why I didn't. Should you when sketching just follow that rule even if it is not in the picture you are drawing. I am still a beginner to this so any tips are helpful...

Thank goodness for photos that catch that right angle, that right lighting, that right "better-day-moment." They are better than mirrors which just confront you with every flaw LOL We live in a friendly community on a small island that separates two fresh water lakes. Neighbors are very gracious about letting us use their lake front. My lake view is from the kitchen window looking directly between houses. The property value difference between houses on my side of the road and the lake side is approx. $600K. There are 3 lakes connected by canals and with public boat ramps. :) After all, this is Florida...a far cry from the Outback where I grew up.

my second comment is that I can't get over how REAL they look. What did you use for the dark background color? And the fish are just glistening!

The painting is lovely,I think what might be bothering you is the large dead tree on the left.Imo it is competeing with the duck for the viewers attention, but if the client is happy with it...no worries...btw perfect frame for the scene.
