Powdered can be used used to tone or cover large sections of a drawing surface. Drawing over the toned areas will darken it further, but you can also lighten or erase some of the toned area to obtain a lighter value. Tom

Hi Tom, It looks like these are photo's of past storms. Guess we'll have a repeat tomorrow and Friday. These photo's will be quite a challenge, but the one of the heavy overcast skies and rain blowing into those trees is very appealing and I may try…

Hello Elisabet, Welcome to the Pastel Challenge. Hey, I recognize this guy. I like your version. You were brave and added the bridge and pilings and the other birds. Nice job indeed. And, thank you for liking my pelican. He was fun to do.

I'll check out the pastel group when I get a chance. I'm afraid I don't have an abstractionist bone in my body.

Thanks Joanne. I'm glad you like my pelican. As you can see, I took the coward's way out and found a bird to paint! (No offense Tom -- they are lovely photos -- I just didn't feel I could do those impressive bridges justice.) I did enjoy doing the p…

Well Joanne, you are braver than I am. You do boats very well. They're nice sleek vessels. The water is good with it's verigated colors. I also have a feeling that it didn't photograph as well as it should have. An all round pleasing painting. Margu…

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I'm recovering from a very serious cancer operation. I can't get out and about anymore so I retrieved my art materials from storage and started in again.

I retired from the U.S. Navy in 1981 then worked in the computer field until forced to retire due to illness in late 2006.

I was amazed at the cost of art supplies present day so it's a good thing I kept my older supplies.

Update October 2008. Went to see the oncologist for checkup and get the results of my last CT scan and other tests. There is no sign of of cancer and I am getting around a little better now. It look like I can continue to torture you with my art for a while longer.
My dog Herbie AKA Dirty Herbie, don't ask. Pekingese are not known for train ability and Dirty Herbie is not an exception to the rule. lol

My work space (A semi virtual tour)

Here's some shots for some of you that thought it was neat and orderly. lol

The room is approx 18' x 14' and was laid out as a den. In some houses in my neighborhood it is a garage and has the door where you see the window in my space.

Looking south (pic 1) you see my art table to the left and my computer table to the right. You will notice model airplanes, half built model air planes, balsa and tools all over the place. Oh, don't forget the art supplies lol

Tom, I just read about your cancer. I'm so glad and relieved that it is better now. I'm glad my cancer is only basel cell carcinoma, on my face, (my nose) and I'm waiting for specialized surgery, which I'm booked to get on December 8th. It could be an all day affair this time, but no radiation which I got the last time. I am so envious of your supplies!! I threw all of mine out in a fit of stupidity about 25 years ago. I think your work is stupendous, and I think I'll try my hand at oil pastels, another first for me. It has taken me long enough to get back to painting with anything, that I'm ready to try everything! Good luck, MaryC M
