My first painting in years, critique please.
this is a very nice painting especially for being away for so long. Welcome back :) colors are good, but i'm thinking the shadows are a tiny bit off.

Great information from everyone, especially the last one about using a wash. The pictures made it a little easier to understand.

i think this is great! I like the idea of the stick figures and just go from there. It seems like it would be really helpful for a beginner. (like me) :)

lovely, calming piece. I like the way you did the rolls in the grass as it gave it so much more depth.

Fabulous. really great deer. I saw an artist once that did drawings on newspaper. I think that was in one of my artist magizines.
Any way I think your map makes a great background. Especially since I think backgrounds are so hard to paint in waterco…

- I am a retired homemaker who took up art in Feb 09, about a year ago now. A fellow Scrabble player was teaching watercolor classes and encouraged me to attend to see if I liked it. Haven't quit yet :) Having a lot of fun with it and wanting to learn more and more. I look around here and see so much talent from so many people.
I love horses and animals and thought I'd like to do ATC but haven't done so yet. Also wanted to learn to paint roses but haven't yet either. That is a goal of mine for this year. My other goal was to paint our 3 kitties. I've painted 2 and 1 to go.
Married to DH for 35 years :)

- sandy thanks for all the kind comments the Mating Koi back ground is just pure black water color the reason the fish look like their glistening has to do with the fact that i highlighted them with Winser and Newton metallic additive so the highs are reflecting and refracting light it makes for a dramatic Fish LOL
