Hi Michael. As Dreamkeeper said try Google. I Google "Courtroom Artists" a few moments ago and got a wealth of info from articles to "How to be...... and also an interview with a Courtroom Artist. I think Dreamkeepers suggestion of practicing quick…

I'm starting to think that anything you want info about GOOGLE will at least point you in the right direction - it would be a facinatting career . You can get started with a timer - pick any scene with people and then on large sketcing paper(the ver…

Is anyone familiar with the subject?  I know i have to be a faster drawer which will be a huge challenge for me because i usually take a lot of time with my portraits.  Can anyone offer any contacts or advice?Thank you

This is so well done! I am a beginner with pastels too but I am a messy worker and I think your blending is so good.

You're doing something very right with pastels...keep it up! Just that the jawline is a bit too sharp for me. If you would have blended it a bit more with the face and neck (I dont know pastels, so I really dont know if this is possible, but I'm sur…

Thanks for the comments on my Kayla I appreciate you taking the time. I am loving what you are doing with colour pencils especially as I have just started to add colour pencil highlights to my own graphite drawings.......must be the thing to do eh.

Thanks Michael, this one was certainly different and so was quite exciting to do. In fact I enjoyed it so much I am looking for more of a similar style to do. I know I didn't go quite dark enough, in fact the original was quite a bit darker, but I kept going over it and it was beginning not to change very much, so I thought that possibly that was as dark as I would get with a HB4 what do you think? (the upload is pretty much as dark as it is on my paper).
Oh I also have to admit that the likeness is not wonderful either, she looks ten years younger on my sketch. Normally I would have started again but had spent so much time on it.

Thanks Michael for the ideas, I am sure I will be back for more.
I usually just put down a few marks for my portraits, then fill in the details with the help of a ruler, sometimes it works, sometimes it ends in the bin, but each time I do one it gets a bit easier. I have in the past used tracing paper to find the outline and a few major details, but that can make it even more confusing if you misread the marks.
I read today about a small projecter that will project the picture you want to do onto your paper, and I guess you draw around it. It got a positive response, so I will see how people get on with that.

Hi Michael. Hey thats great, thanks for the offer! I am sure I will be taking you up on that when I get started on coloured pencils. In fact perhaps you could tell me if there are any particular rules for blending colours, such as do you start with light colours first? Do you have to use particular directional strokes?
Blimey I think you might be sorry you offered!

Thanks again Michael. I am going to give them a go later this week. I have some basic coloured pencils and will look at how they blend together. Will let you know how I get on. Will have a look at coloured pencils on here and see if I can find something simple to try. (I am always on the look out for inspiration)
