I recently begain drawing in colored pencils but i hope to learn to paint soon. I am interested also in learning to draw my portraits using soft pastels.

I usually just put down a few marks for my portraits, then fill in the details with the help of a ruler, sometimes it works, sometimes it ends in the bin, but each time I do one it gets a bit easier. I have in the past used tracing paper to find the outline and a few major details, but that can make it even more confusing if you misread the marks.
I read today about a small projecter that will project the picture you want to do onto your paper, and I guess you draw around it. It got a positive response, so I will see how people get on with that.
