I like your mountains--good lights and darks to give them dimension. The trees have good shape and body, too. I've never seen the original but I like the colors you used.
I really like this one--5's. The cliffs are well done and those waves are gorgeous--the water in the forefront looks smooth and shiny......I'd say you ought to frame this and hang it with pride!!!
e looks very haughty and regl--but then I guess king's do look that way. I like his fur--looks soft. The right ear is well done, and those eyes are wonderful.
Nice one, they look so peaceful---mom and her baby.....but looks can be deceiving. I love the background, it's nice and soft and in turn softens those ferocious lions. You've got some nice tones from light to dark, too.
Ohhhh.....I wouldn't want to get near him with those huge claws!!! His face looks kind of friendly, but the pose and those claws make me think he is defending his territory.
Gary, I just wanted to tell you to try new brushes, too. I used a deerfoot brush for the fur on my dogs and for the feathers on the swans. It helps to get that soft furry or feathery look. They're also great for clouds. For the swans I loaded white on the top part of the deerfoot brush and gray on the bottom part and got a sculpted look for the feathers. I've also gotten folliage brushes ( a flat brush that 's cut jagged across) --it makes great evergreen trees. works better than the fan brush for me. Hope this helps.
And hey, I often have trouble---I've done some I'm proud of, and many others are trash--I haven't gotten to the place where I can turn out good ones every time. Maybe one day.

Hi Gary, I have a Bob Ross book and I watch his shows each week--have done so for years. I took an acrylics 6 week class this summer and have pretty well switched to acrylics. I guess I like how it cleans up with water. But then I learned to clean my oil brushes with baby oil on this site so it's not as bad as when I had to use turpentine. I bought several books, Lee Hammond and Jerry Yarnell, were my favorites and began to use their instructions--they show you step by step. Then I branched out to using my own photo/s which I blow up in black and white--that helps me to see where the lights and darks (values) should change. I use the color photo to guide me in the painting--but often I add my own trees, bushes, clouds, etc to the sketch, Oh yeah, I sketch every-thing on my canvas because I'm not that great at composing my painting as I go. If it's my own photo, I may trace the outlines of the animal, etc, that I want to paint--it's faster than drawing by the grid method. If you've never used the grid method, it's drawing squares on your reference photo and then larger squares on your canvas. Then you draw your pre-paint sketch a square at at time. Lee Hammond's books show you how to do this. She works in acrylics, but you could also use oils. And then it's just trial and error. Join one of the challenges on this site--I have learned a lot from those challenges.
You're doing well--and getting better each time you paint. That's what helps--just keep doing it. I also looked at a lot of the video's on this site. I feel like they are helping me.

Wow! This is full of colour and life. A great match for the motion in the water. I'm amazed that you were able to paint this so fast and so well.

Elena,
I'm happy to continue the challenge. I feel I have learned a lot by doing the challenge paintings for the past year, and think it's only fair that I start giving back. I am also willing to share the duties. If you have a photograph that you…
