Why don't you frame them either upside or downside inside same framing I give you an idea of how to treat those two drawings with a poem I framed for a friend of mine. I made the framing but not the poem. He was just beeing for the second time g...

Very interesting discovery. I would treat them now as two separate paintings and see what the end results look like. Let us have a look as well.

Hey Cathi- glad you're keeping on -I agree that you can 'lose' some of the talent from years ago-I did and seem to have found another-quite by accident, never done any detailed work before, did lots of fashion -style pics as a teenager and wildlife as a child, then nothing for over 30 years! Now I've discovered a flair for botanical studies, who'd have thought it- so you see there's always something to experiment with and I find that this site is such an inspiration,if I feel a bit stale or blank-I just browse the 'all artwork' pages and Bingo!-another idea inspired by yet another super artist right here on site! , aren't we lucky....?!?

Hi Cathi,
Glad that my letter was of some help to you. Now the broken pencils. Well, I am not quite sure of the reason. Just perhaps it may be your electric pencil sharpener, if you use one. Most electric sharpeners do not like the wax from colored pencil but if you do use one sharpen a regular graphite pencil now and again. This will clean the sharpener blades.
Once again, I hope this helps.

Hi Cathi......so nice to meet someone from the island. Thanks for your very kind comments on my painting. I am self taught......if you don't count books and tapes.
I am retired and have lots of time to devote to art. I'll keep my eye peeled for your work. All my best to you and your family.

Hi Cathi,
Well, where to begin. The most important thing that you must have when creating colored pencil work is patience.
The second would be quality of pencils, I use PrismaColor. Also when buying pencils always check the end to ensure that the color is centered to the wood. This will keep the color centered when sharpening. If the color is not centered with the wood you will end up with a pencil point with more wood on one side of the point. I hope that it is not to confusing.
Paper. Well you will find out that there are many and the best way to ‘Find’ yours, we are all different, is through trail and error. A heavy grain paper will show grain through your drawings and that may suit some work. I like my drawings to have a vivid a color as possible which takes time and many layers. A smooth texture paper is more suited to my needs. I also prefer a heavy paper, 80 to 100lb.
Wax bloom is caused when you use many layers in your work. The remedy is to apply a few light coats of Krylon Workable Fixative to your finished drawing.
All of the above will be in your Art Supplies Store.

Let me know if this helps you.

Walter

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I have done some kind of art off and on for years. I love landscapes. I am just getting back into it again and am struggling.
I am a wife, my wonderful hubby is Bob. We will be celebrating our 31st anniversary this next year! Plus I am a mother of 4, all grown. my 3 daughters live close by and we have 3 grandchildren close by. I have 3 other grandchildren but due to divorce am not allowed to see them. very sad! I had an accident at my job and now can not work in an office situation so I am trying to figure out what to do with myself. I am thinking of going into pet photography to bring in some money. And though I have sold some of my paintings I can't make a living out of it. But I love to paint.
