Tell us a bit about yourself:
I have been painting on & off for about 8 years mostly in the evenings or at evening classes. I love to paint animals in pastel and have had a few commissions. I also love to paint in oil but mostly abstract or in an impressionistic style. I have recently taken early retirement and hope to eventually devote more time to painting.

Ta for the comments. Yep, am getting the hang of this art thing and improvement is coming along nicely thus far. Will reference back to the photo and do a few measurements, as i generally draw free hand by eye

Hi Carolyn. I am very much impressed with your animal art work. May I add just one thing. Do your back ground color to make the animal POP. I learned this from an artist here in Los Angles that makes a small forturne with her animal portraits. This will make all the difference in the world. Make small samples and lay them in the background as a test.

my second comment is that I can't get over how REAL they look. What did you use for the dark background color? And the fish are just glistening!

The painting is lovely,I think what might be bothering you is the large dead tree on the left.Imo it is competeing with the duck for the viewers attention, but if the client is happy with it...no worries...btw perfect frame for the scene.
