Hey girl. Think it through before hand. Like a carpenter told me once, "measure TWICE and cut ONCE." Same for us. Save this one for further notes. Tip to find out where you went wrong. Put a piece of acitate over the original out line it and then la…

How long have you been drawing or painting?
I'm returning to art after a long lay off
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I live in sunny Southern California with my Red Irish Setter, Molly Malone. I am teaching myself to paint dogs. I use friends dogs, dogs at dog beach, and at the dog park. While I'm there I take photos of them so that I have a reference to go by in between visits to make sure I have it right.
My goal is to practice on every subject daily, 24/7. If professional musician, sports players, and other artist of other field put in long hours of practice, why shouldn't we as artist. The paintings I posted are small 4x6 and 5x7 inches post card. This size is a pain to do but it tends to be a challenge and adds discipline. Every painting I will be doing is a learning piece and will go into the save and study box in the corner of the room. In-between practice I am also working on my other art work in order to see if I still can do it.
My life painting, portraits, landscapes, style is different from the animals as they ( animals ) are new territory for me right now.
Thank you so very much for visiting my page, and have a great day.

Post card size oil paintings. Photos taken too close.

Hi CJ,
Know just what you mean about ideas that don't come to fruition, until sometimes years later. Not often the case with me as I've always been a 'Do it Now' person, which has always paid off in business, but probably not in my art. I am looking forward to seeing those five horses.
Sincerely,
Daniel

LOVE that picture of Molly on the boat! What a beautiful dog!

Thanks for the tips on my Angelina. measure TWICE and cut ONCE - Yep I've heard that before and it's one to live by for sure.

Part of the problem with my angelina is that I'm drawing her out on a bigger piece of paper than the 8 X 11 that I'm copying from. So I have to make one grid for the 8 X 11, and then a different grid for the bigger sheet. What happens is that my brain looks at the small one and wants to make the same size mark on the big one, and it's hard to judge the bigger proportion. But a smaller grid (with more squares) aught to help me get it.

I love your work by the way. You really capture the spirit of the animals that you do. Love them!

Hi CJ,
You are absolutely right in all you say (and do). I wish I could be that good in my mind set. I suppose in a nutshell we could put this down to mind, vision, action? In my case, needing a lot of practice too. lol

Hey CJ
Cant wait to see the painting. Still waiting on the Blueberry pie though. LOL
I love all your art work, it is amazing what you can do. It seems that you really get into the piece and feel it as you paint. They have so much character.
Thanks for letting me know.

Hi CJ, looking after the grandchildren mostly because my Daughter is on her own now with 3 children, she is a senior staff nurse and has to work more hours now because of her situation, they are great kids so i don't mind having them, i do find time now and again to draw because you only need paper and pencil and there is no clearing up lol xx

I perhaps would not label this "contemporary". Rather, it harkens back to very old Japanese stylistic painting. Its beautiful, but .....
