Hi Pat. I may not be able to participate this month. We had a death in the family and are 900 miles from home (and my art supplies and my computer). Will look forward to catching up on the entries when I get back to Tennessee. I do love the first ...

I must be getting in the Halloween spirit. I bought a pumpkin today, brought it home, peeled the skin off and carved a face in the rind with a paring knife and a potato peeler. What fun. I intended for it to look scary but it turned out rather fr...

This is beautiful, Marilyn...much prettier colors that the reference photo. I love the sunlit mountains in the background and you did a great job on the daisies too. Yes, I love the challenges too. They have helped me so much.

Studying skin tones

Here is my best 'recipe' for flesh tone colors:
1. Titanium white
2. Cadmium Red Light
3. Cadmium Yellow Medium
4. Yellow Ochre
5. Burnt Sienna
6. Burnt Umber
7. Ultramarine Blue.

For light flesh tones use colors 1, 2, 3, and 5.
For medium flesh tones use 2, 3, 4 and 5.
For dark flesh tones use 2, 5, 6 and 7.

Recycled Wine Bottles

I know that some in our community do not like to see anything that does not pertain to art on this site, and to you I apologize, I also know that there are many others who love crafts as I do and I thought you might enjoy seeing the recycled wine bottles. My husband and I have made dozens of these. They are easy to make and people love receiving them as gifts. Simply clean the bottle thoroughly, drill a hole near the bottom of the bottle with a diamond drill bit, (the diamond bit is made to dril… Continue

yes I have Bob's DVD's as well, and though they are helpful and encouraged me to dive in, watercolors are still very hard for me, I recently bought a set of water soluble oils but haven't broken into them yet. Thanks for accepting my friend invitation.

Thanks for the welcome – envy your leaf peeping – I’m originally from Vermont and miss the foliage, a friend and I are hoping to get up there next fall - been 30 years since last saw foliage.

Hi Anncam
Many thanks for looking at The Chief. You lucky duck, going off in to the mountains in the autumn, my favourite time of year. Maybe next year for me and Peter! I hope you have a great time and get lots of wonderful pics.
Best wishes

Thank you for your encouragment on my recent color study, Fading Light. I appreciate you taking the time to look and your comments.

Oh, wow, Tennessee must be beautiful for the fall colors. We are in NM and have seen (1 day) some aspens, but where we are now along the river are brightly colored cotton woods. We took many days of photos, but the highlight was a late evening before sunset. Those trees lit up like they were on fire, and the later it got the better the reflections became in the river. Another photo for my "next" folder. Although, I will have to work my way up to wanting to tackle it as it has SO MUCH in the photo. I hope you got great reference photos. I know you had a blast just getting to go look! Ro
