My third attempt at painting with oils. I think the biggest mistake I made was using too much liquid clear. Or forgetting to wipe off the excess liquid clear with a paper towel before starting. I had trouble with paint soaking in to the canvas, even though there were four coats of gesso. In some places I had trouble getting the paint to stick.
Anyway, it's another lesson in painting and I learned quite a bit with it. To tell the truth, I am quite pleased with the sky. I think that came out rather nice. Could have been better, but I'll take it.
16 x 20 oil on black gesso canvas.
NOTE: I think what I'll do here is wait for it to dry, or at least mostly dry, and then go back over it and test my palette knife skills. I like those paintings done with nothing but palette knives, so I'll go over this one and turn it into that kind of painting. Probably be about 4-5 weeks before the canvas will be dry enough to do that.
NOTE2: This painting is no more. I gessoed over it and did a different seascape. Maybe I'll post that one someday, but it didn't come out as nicely as I had hoped.
